Outsourced payroll services
Your staff paid accurately and on time, with HMRC, pensions and your accountant taken care of.
Running payroll takes time, and the rules behind it keep changing. That is why our outsourced payroll services take the whole job off your desk, from working out each person's pay to the reports at the end of the tax year.
You send us your payroll information in whatever format suits you, and we do the rest. The sooner we take it on, the sooner payroll stops eating into your week. After that we run it every pay day, and stay on hand when a pay question comes up.
Rated five stars on Google Read our reviewsWhen businesses hand us their payroll
- Payroll done in-house that is taking up too much time
- Moving from another payroll provider or your accountant
- Staff paid weekly, fortnightly and monthly
- Hourly, shift and zero hours staff whose pay changes each week
- Sick, maternity and paternity pay to work out
- New staff joining your payroll through a TUPE transfer
Whatever your payroll looks like now, we agree with you the information we need and how you send it. Then we run your payroll from it. What's more, you can take payroll on its own, or alongside our HR support and staff training.
What is an outsourced payroll service?
An outsourced payroll service is a specialist provider that runs your payroll for you. It works out each employee's pay and deductions, produces payslips, and reports to HMRC and your pension provider.
You stay in charge of the decisions, such as pay rates, hours and who joins or leaves. Meanwhile, the provider does the calculations, the reporting and the paperwork. Our guide on how to outsource your payroll covers what to think about before you switch, and GOV.UK sets out what running payroll as an employer involves.
However, getting payroll right matters more than ever. From April 2026, statutory sick pay is due from the first day of sickness, whatever the employee earns. The Fair Work Agency, launched the same month, can inspect payroll records without warning. Underpaying the National Minimum Wage, even by mistake, can lead to arrears, a penalty and being publicly named.
What our outsourced payroll services include
Our outsourced payroll services cover everything from the first calculation to the year-end reports. At the same time, we fit around how your business already works, and the person you nominate approves every pay run before anyone is paid.
Pay for every kind of employee
We work out pay for salaried, daily and hourly paid staff, with the right tax and National Insurance taken off. That includes staff whose hours change each week, such as those on zero hours contracts.
Weekly, fortnightly or monthly
We run weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay runs, with different frequencies for different staff if you need them.
Statutory pay worked out for you
We calculate statutory sick pay, maternity pay and paternity pay, so the right amounts go through at the right time.
Starters and leavers
We set up new starters and process leavers, and issue P45s digitally when someone leaves.
Checked before anyone is paid
We check every pay run and email it to the person you nominate to approve it, before anyone is paid. Then we prepare a payment file for your bank, or pay your staff directly through Modulr.
Payslips and an online portal
Every employee gets a digital payslip. In addition, employees, owners and managers can log in to an online portal to see payslips and payroll reports, and P60s go out digitally at the end of each tax year.
HMRC and workplace pensions
We report each pay run to HMRC as it happens and handle the end-of-year reporting. We also enrol staff into your workplace pension and send contribution details to your pension provider, in line with The Pensions Regulator's duties for employers.
Journals for your accountant
We produce payroll journals for your accountant, so your payroll figures go straight into your accounts.
Who our payroll service is for
Our payroll service suits small and medium-sized businesses that want payroll done properly without running it themselves.
- Businesses where payroll takes up real time every month
- Teams with a mix of salaried, hourly and shift workers
- Businesses that have outgrown running payroll on a spreadsheet
- Finance teams that want payroll off their desk but still want to approve it
- Businesses that want HR and payroll handled by one team
Payroll and HR from the same team
Plenty of payroll questions are really HR questions. Can you recover an overpayment? What do you pay someone who is off sick during their notice? How does a TUPE transfer change your payroll?
Our payroll specialists work alongside our HR consultants, so you get one joined-up answer. And if you also use our HR support, your assigned HR consultant and the payroll team work together when needed.
When Workrate took on 100 staff through a TUPE transfer, on different shifts and pay terms, we took on their payroll. Read the Workrate payroll case study.
How our payroll is priced
Our payroll pricing is simple, and it scales with the size of your payroll.
Charged per payslip
You pay for each payslip we produce, whether you pay staff weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The rate per payslip falls as your payroll grows.
A one-off set-up fee
Before your first pay run, setting up your payroll carries a one-off fee, based on the number of employees.
A £100 monthly minimum
If your payslip fees come to less than £100 in a month, we charge £100, plus VAT. So our service suits businesses paying more than a handful of people.
All prices are plus VAT. Our full payroll prices are in our services and prices brochure, which you can ask for on our prices page.

We have outsourced our HR and payroll to Bespoke HR for the past few years. For us, the two work together in tandem which means we have all our staff needs covered. We’ve found the payroll service to be flexible and tailored to our business; including things like salary sacrifice. We’ve also benefitted from journal creation, pensions administration and general payroll advice from the team over the years. If you’re looking for a provider to fulfill both your HR and payroll requirements, then I would highly recommend Bespoke HR.
Common questions
What does an outsourced payroll service include?
It covers the whole payroll cycle. We work out pay, tax, National Insurance and pension deductions, and calculate statutory sick, maternity and paternity pay. Each pay run, we produce digital payslips, report to HMRC and send contribution details to your pension provider. On top of that, we prepare a payment file for your bank, journals for your accountant and the end-of-year reporting.
How much does outsourced payroll cost?
We charge per payslip, whatever the pay frequency, and the rate per payslip falls as your payroll grows. In addition, there is a one-off set-up fee based on the number of employees. If your payslip fees come to less than £100 in a month, we charge a £100 minimum. All prices are plus VAT. Get our full prices.
Can I pay some staff weekly and some monthly?
Yes. When we set up your payroll, you tell us how often each employee is paid, and we run each pay frequency for you.
Can you pay staff on zero hours contracts?
Yes. We calculate pay and deductions for staff whose hours change from one week or month to the next. So you only need to send us the hours worked, and we do the rest.
Can we move our payroll to you part way through the tax year?
Yes. Many businesses move at the start of a tax year, because there is less to carry across, but you do not have to wait. Part way through the year, we collect each employee's pay and tax for the year so far and set it up for you.
What do you need from us each pay run?
Usually the hours worked, any changes to pay, and details of starters, leavers and absence, by a deadline we agree for each pay run. You can send it in whatever format suits you. Small changes can still be made after the deadline, while the pay run is waiting for approval.
Do you handle workplace pensions?
Yes. We enrol your staff into your workplace pension, work out the contributions and send the details to your pension provider each pay run.
Can I use your HR support as well?
Yes, though you do not have to. You can take payroll on its own, or alongside our HR support and training. Using both means a pay question that turns into an HR one stays with the same team.
